New tobacco laws which came into effect on 22 September make WA a national leader in tobacco control.
With the aim of protecting children and adults from the harmful consequences of passive smoking, the new laws are some of the toughest in the country and include a ban on smoking;
in cars carrying children under 17 years within 10 metres of children’s outdoor play equipment in all outdoor eating areas of restaurants and cafes and between flags of patrolled beaches.
Tobacco product displays in retail outlets will also become a thing of the past under the new restrictions. For more information on the new WA restrictions please visit www.tobaccocontrol.health.wa.gov.au
