Smarter than Smoking mascot Dude out and about in WA

Thursday, 11 November 2010

The Smarter than Smoking mascot, Dude, has been getting out to the country and getting dirty, helping the Junior Speedway Racing Association of WA (JSRAWA) promote the Smarter than Smoking message to young motor enthusiasts in Moora.

The JRSAWA ran the first event of the Smarter than Smoking Country Challenge at Moora on

Saturday, 30 October 2010.  This six event series, sponsored by Healthway to promote the

Smarter than Smoking message, is for young people aged 10 – 17 years racing sedan cars under 1200cc.

Eleven metropolitan drivers and their family and friends made the trip to Moora, 200km north of Perth, to race with 22 local drivers over a four race event.  Perth driver, Jack Alfirevich, was the winner of the Top Stars, while Sean Bowan won the All Stars division.  Local, Tyler Vanzetti, came an admirable third in the All Stars division.

With over 2200 spectators in attendance, Dude had a busy time getting out amongst the crowd and down to the Pits to meet all the kids.  There were games of frisbee, and Smarter than Smoking information and merchandise being handed out. Young people also had the chance to win Smarter than Smoking gift bags for answering quiz questions about smoking.

The JSRAWA have done a fantastic job of promoting the Smarter than Smoking message over many years and ensured the entire venue was smoke free for the night.

With the success of the evening it looks like Dude is set to travel further afield, with a trip planned to the Smarter than Smoking Country Challenge Meet on the 4-5 December in Esperance and Kalgoorlie.

If you have an event that you would like Dude to attend to promote the Smarter than Smoking message please email your request to  SMART@Heartfoundation.org.au
