Members of the Smarter than Smoking Youth Committee participated in a Funny Sculptures workshop to create 3D sculptures with the inspiration derived from jokes provided by Smarter than Smoking.
Committee members were asked to think about why the joke was funny and how these funny elements could be made in to a sculpture. After sketching their sculpture, materials found around the home such as paper plates, pop sticks and tissue boxes were used to bring their sculptures to life.
The sculptures aim to communicate the Smarter than Smoking message in a positive, creative and fun way and will be displayed in the foyer of the State Library of Western Australia from Friday 15 April to Monday 30 May 2011.
The Smarter than Smoking Project is always looking for young people who are passionate about smoking prevention to join our team. The Youth Committee meets once a term to talk about issues relating to tobacco and young people. Members will also have the opportunity to participate in fun and exciting activities that may include designing merchandise, providing feedback on website games, participating in photo shoots and featuring as extras in the latest television advertisement.
For more information or to nominate a student to be involved, please contact Smarter than Smoking on 9382 5907, email SMART@Heartfoundation.org.au or download a nomination form.
