The Critics' Choice
The Critics’ Choice is a national initiative by the Australian Network on Young People And Tobacco (ANYPAT) for schools, teachers and students and which aligns with the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education for Years 5 to 10.
Students are encouraged to watch a selection of anti-smoking television commercials from around the world and vote for their favourites, including the one most likely to discourage young people from taking up smoking. All entries go into the draw to win a state prize.
Teachers are recommended to view the advertisements prior to use with students to determine their suitability. They can then:
- Plan classroom activities using The Critics’ Choice Teacher Resources
- Watch the ads together with students and get students to vote online
- Download tobacco education resources from this website and have a discussion about the dangers of smoking.
