Young Directors' Festival 2014 - North
Image: Winners: Roseworth Primary School and Wanneroo Secondary College.
For the first time, six schools in the Northern and Eastern Metropolitan contested the title of Best Television Commercial 2014.
Roseworth Primary School won the Best Primary Television Commercial with “Say no thanks, live a better way”. This ad demonstrated the impact of losing a loved one to a smoking-related illness, and the personal choice to say "no" and be smoke-free.
Wanneroo Secondary College won Best Secondary Television Commercial with “Your Choice, your future”. The ad used a ‘Hunger Games’ style and flash-forward technique to show the health and financial impacts of smoking and the choice young people have to say "no" to smoking.
The schools competing in Smarter than Smoking's Young Directors’ Festival 2014 included Balga Senior High School, Swan View Senior High School, Wanneroo Secondary College, West Beechboro Primary School, East Wanneroo Primary School and Roseworth Primary School.
The “Say no thanks, live a better way" and “Your choice, your future” commercials were screened at Joondalup and Morley cinemas before each movie from Christmas Day until the end of January 2015.
2014's entries brought the total anti-smoking television commercials produced by young West Australian students to 39. Watch the 2014 commercials below and learn more about the dangers of smoking.
